Also, did you ensure you're a member of the vboxusers group? But other than that, if your CPU supports virtualization, and you have those features on, VB is pretty stable. I have the optical on its own IDE controller, the HDD is on a SATA. Max out the video memory and have 2 cores in the VM. VM has recentely played with the settings, W10 works well on VBoxSVGA, Win 7 likes 3D to on, Win10 likes it off. I also always set the virtualization setting to Hyper-V for windows clients and prefer the virtualized NIC always. Of course the VM you're running needs a CD drive, try putting it on it's own IDE controller, or SATA, if you see things not working.
That worked for me on all LMDE's I've tried. Once you install Virtualbox, make sure the add-in is installed as well (just open the VB manager app and check for updates). I follow the same approach for Wine, running both 32 and 64 bit without an issue. I then simply follow the instructions for Debian, which has not failed me. My main laptop went from LMDE to KDE Neon to LM 20.x.Īnyway, under LMDE I have always elected to have the Debian repos hooked on, especially the backports, and I took the Virtualbox straight from their site, not from the LMDE repos. It has been a while since I used LMDE 4 really heavily, but I still run it on my second laptop.
